In the flamboyant world of Brazilian soap operas, the next kiss is never far around the corner. But as the latest blockbuster series, América, drawed to a close, viewers braced themselves for something they had not bargained for: um beijo gay, a gay kiss.
The announcement by scriptwriter Gloria Perez that two of the soap's male characters were to share the first homosexual kiss in Brazilian television history has shocked a country considered one of the most liberal in the world. But after weeks of hyping the kiss on the show the long
awaited beijo never appeared. The producers blamed the Globo network for chopping it. The network
claimed the kiss was never in the show. Then, two days later Globo
admitted that it had cut the scene. Needless to say Brazil's gay community was enraged at what it called "moral censorship".
As it always does, one thing leads to another. Not showing the kiss, resulted in a mass kiss-in demonstration, in which hundreds of gays locked lips in front of Brazil's capitol. This of course lead to widespread television coverage. It seems that Brazil got a lot more then one beijo gay... But we don't think Brazil is ready for a series like Dante's Cove (see picture).

Hi, I'm a brazilian boy and I must tell you that "beijo gay" would not be the first on brazilian television, because MTv Brazil already showed in some shows. But to a thing I agree to you: my country is not ready for a homosexual series. I would have other opinions about this. Maybe someday. Bye!
(sorry about my english sucks)
