IN HAVANA, CUBA, IN THE LATE 1950’S, A WEALTHY FAMILY, ONE WHOSE SONS IS A PROMINENT NIGHTCLUB OWNER, IS CAUGHT IN THE VIOLENT TRANSITION FROM THE OPPRESSIVE REGIME OF BATISTA TO THE MARXIST GOVERNMENT OF FIDEL CASTRO. CASTRO’S REGIME ULTIMATELY LEADS THE NIGHTCLUB OWNER TO FLEE TO NEW YORK.

Havana in 1958 is a place of pleasure for many, but others are not happy under the rule of dictator Fulgencio Batista. Once a happy family, now the three Fellove brothers are torn apart and the family get’s ruined, while the revolutionary forces of Fidel Castro and Ernesto 'Che' Guevara prepare to move on the city. Luis supports Castro as a clandestine terrorist and is killed by the forces of Batista. Brother Ricardo joins Castro's forces as a freedom fighter and kills himself when he realizes that Castro is just another power-hungry dictator. 


Fico Fellove - owner of the city’s classiest music nightclub, El Tropico - struggles to hold together his family and the love of a woman, not knowing that his club will become more than just a stage for popular entertainment. Observing all is The Writer an expatriate American who sees Fico being drawn into events as the revolution changes everything. Though Fico watches a culture vanish and a people transformed, it is his love of Cuban music that keeps his memories alive.
Andy Garcia stars and directs his latest film, THE LOST CITY. The film is Garcia's dramatic and historical romantic tribute to his native Cuba.

All of the movies about pre-Castro Cuba are always about a white guy's lost paradise. Given that the majority of Cuba is African-descended people, blacks and mulattos, these films just tell the story of the white elite.
