The Unexpected Fruits of Diego Lema

HE HAS WORKED FOR MANY YEARS AS A MODEL IN FRONT OF THE OTHER PEOPLES CAMERAS, A JOB THAT BROUGHT HIM TO MANY WONDERFUL PLACES, AND MADE HIM MEET MANY INTERESTING PEOPLE. HE STILL MODELS, BUT NOW FOR HIS OWN CAMERA. AND THAT IS ONLY THE BEGINNING OF THE BLOSSOMING TALENT OF DIEGO LEMA.

Diego Lema was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, 34 years ago, and lives currently with his partner in Miami. He bought his first digital camera for the same reason many others did, family pictures and vacation shots. Experiencing that always having to do what others wanted him to do in front of a camera, made Diego develop his new hobby into a need. He decided to take self portraits, all in a way that doesn’t make him as handsome as the regular fashion shoots – although that is not an easy task we believe. Diego wants to express see himself in a less conservative ways.

Now if you think Diego Lema is shooting self portraits out of a strong sense of narcissism, you are mistaken. Having the experience of working in this business, he knows as no other how difficult it is for a photographer, as well as a model, to start building credibility without a portfolio. Without credibility you don’t have subjects, but without subject you can’t build your portfolio. So Diego combined the one with the other, found his own model in himself and started to shoot series of photos that are absolutely breath taking. Sometimes his photos are sometimes well thought through concepts, and other times the ideas develop themselves while working on it. No matter what Diego does, he does it with a feeling, a story or an experience he wants to share.

Diego Lema is relatively unknown in the artistic world, but we have a feeling this is about to change rapidly. Already he has had a publication in Australia, two book covers in Spain and one in The Netherlands. Currently he uses photo sharing website Flickr as his medium to share his work with the world. His camera, some Photoshop and the positive comments he has received on his art inspire Diego Lema to explore new territories, and keep doing what those things that has given him the unexpected fruits today. –B-
