OFTEN BEAUTIFUL MODELS WITH BEAUTIFUL BODIES DO NOT KNOW HOW TO MOVE. OFTEN MODELS FEEL THAT IN ORDER TO BE SENSUAL, IT HAS TO BE GRAPHIC, LITERAL OR EXPLICIT. FRANK LOUIS WANTED NONE OF THAT. HE SIMPLY WANTED IMPLIED SENSUALITY. AND THAT IS WHAT HE GOT.
We have come to know Frank Louis as a photographer who has great skill in working with natural light. Using natural light he always keeps a keen eye on shadows and highlights to ensure they are flattering the model. It is like being a painter, starting with a blanc piece of white canvas and painting in color. But for this particular project, Frank envisioned turning that whole concept around. What would it be like to start on a black canvas and add light? To have just one ray of light coming from above?
Inspired by the sensual silhouette stage performances created by Bob Fosse, Frank Louis went out to find himself a model with an amazing physique, who was comfortable being nude, who knew how to move his body and who could be sensual without being overly sexual. He found all of that in Frantz G. Hall, an ex-Broadway dancer. Frantz injured himself during a performance some time ago, which meant the end of his time as a professional dancer, but the opening to many other paths in the entertainment industry, modeling being one of them. (Frantz is also a promising singer).
Late on a Saturday evening, after setting up the lighting equipment, Frank and Frantz turned off all the lights, Frantz took off all his clothes, put on some music to set the tone and started the magic. The result is here, beautifully crafted images of a sensual man emerging from the dark. –B-
