Down The Rabbit Hole

ALICE WAS BEGINNING TO GET VERY TIRED OF SITTING BY HER SISTER ON THE BANK, AND OF HAVING NOTHING TO DO: ONCE OR TWICE SHE HAD PEEPED INTO THE BOOK HER SISTER WAS READING, BUT IT HAD NO PICTURES OR CONVERSATIONS IN IT ‘AND WHAT IS THE USE OF A BOOK,’ THOUGHT ALICE ‘WITHOUT PICTURES OF CONVERSATION?’ SO SHE WAS CONSIDERING IN HER OWN MIND WHETHER THE PLEASURE OF MAKING A DAISY-CHAIN WOULD BE WORTH THE TROUBLE OF GETTING UP AND PICKING THE DAISIES, WHEN SUDDENLY A WHITE RABBIT WITH PINK EYES RUN CLOSE BY HER. THERE WAS NOTHING SO VERY REMARKABLE IN THAT; NOR DID ALICE THINK IT SO VERY MUCH OUT OF THE WAY TO HEAR THE RABBIT SAY TO ITSELF, ‘OH DEAR! OH DEAR! I SHALL BE LATE; BUT WHEN THE RABBIT ACTUALLY TOOK A WATCH OUT OF ITS WAISTCOAT-POCKET AND LOOKED AT IT, AND THEN HURRIED ON, ALICE STARTED TO HER FEET, AND BURNING WITH CURIOSITY, SHE RAN ACROSS THE FIELD AFTER IT, AND FORTUNATELY WAS JUST IN TIME TO SEE IT POP DOWN A LARGE RABBIT-HOLE UNDER THE HEDGE. IN ANOTHER MOMENT DOWN WENT ALICE AFTER IT, NEVER ONCE CONSIDERING HOW IN THE WORLD SHE WAS TO GET OUT AGAIN.

When we published our interview with Justin Monroe in June 2006, we probably couldn’t have described the experience of working with him better: going through Justin’s portfolio truly is a dangerous voyeuristic and hyper realistic journey, a visit to a circus of sinful glamour and vivid sexuality. Needless to say Justin has captured us right there and then and up till now it has not been able to shake off this pleasantly hallucinating dream.

Recently, while working with Omer Berger for our fourth BeautifulMag cover story, we caught up with Justin, and, busy as he is, he took time out of his schedule to share with us an exclusive sneak peak of his upcoming book Down The Rabbit Hole. Never knowing what to expect from Justin Monroe, we were of course very excited to see what he was working on…

Justin, we know your style is very erotic and thought provoking. What can we expect to see in your upcoming book?
Justin: This collection was created to make the viewers question boundaries by dipping into their imaginations and deepest fantasies. You will see it all. It is like a circus for the subconscious. You see, with this being my first book, I did not want to do an all male physique book. I have a young, gay, male following, so I wanted to play to what they like. So you are going to get: drugs and money, transsexuals, truckers, naked priests, plastic people, porn stars, fashion, hitch hikers, violence, and baby Jesus’.
It is a journey from start to end. You start your decent and find yourself in Hell, then the Catholic Church, and with your next turn and twist you are in New York City in the middle of a gang fight! I won’t tell you who is fighting; I will save that for the book. It is a trip for sure!

Why Down The Rabbit Hole as the title?
Justin: I have always used that expression to describe going over the edge. One of my main characters is Jessica Rabbit, so the viewer is going down Jessica’s hole! Get it?

The book is like the movie Matrix, will you take the blue pill and wakeup safe in your own bed, or will you take the red pill and see how deep the rabbit hole goes?

Can we expect to see a lot of nudity in this book?
Justin: (laughter)…
