Tough, tougher, toughest. That is the opening phrase on Sidney Wilson’s personal trainer website. And that must have been exactly the thing that went through Thomas Synnamon’s head when he met Sidney for the first time. For sure it was part of the concept behind this series of photographs that Thomas made with Sidney. Sidney is the biggest model Thomas has shot, and Tom decided to emphasize this even more by dressing Sidney in tight fitting costumes with dandy-like, almost feminine accessories. All that created such a perfect contrast that is made Sidney’s muscular physique and his masculinity stand out even more.
Thomas Paul Synnamon is relatively new in the photography scene. He is completely self-taught and has been shooting – with great pleasure – for about a year now. His examples are Tim Ricks, Sandro Bross and Steven Vaschon, and like these three gentlemen Tom likes to shoot men, although it is not the only thing he does: "I love the classic lines and musculature of the male body, and the strong, natural beauty of the male face. My energy and enthusiasm for the male form comes through in every shot. You have to love what you shoot. However, I have shot women as well, and the reception to these photos was extremely positive as well."
Thomas Synnamon also likes to shoot editorial work for sports and fashion magazines, but his dream is to publish a book with his nudes in the future. Inspired by his friends, nature and New York City, his min dis constantly buzzing with new ideas for shoots. Thomas is full of creativity and excitement, which is for him the basis of his love for this medium. That he is creative already shows in his other career accomplishments. Currently working at the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology in new York, he made a living as window display designer and headdress designer before that. Thomas even has a career as model, which probably explains why he knows so well to strike a pose. –B-
