WHEN JAMES DEMITRI SENT US THE PHOTOS HE DID FOR ONE OF HIS LATEST FASHION EDITORIALS WE WEREN’T QUITE SURE WHAT WE SHOULD MAKE OF IT. THE SCENES HE CREATED WITH MODEL MICHAEL WHITAKER SEEM TO BE REMINDING OF SOME KIND OF A FILM SCENARIO. BUT WE CAN’T MAKE UP OUR MIND WHETHER IT IS STARGATE, FLASHDANCE OF X-MEN. BUT SINCE THE TITLE OF THIS SERIES IS BOY WONDER, WE STICK TO THE SUPER HERO IDEA.
James Demitri was born in Cyprus 38 years ago and moved to Sydney at the age of 12. Even though he started his career as a graphic designer, photography has always been his passion. And thus he did what everyone else in his situation would do. He evolved his career into the arts of digital retoucher to eventually become a full time photographer.
James’ artistic background shows through his work. He is one of these talented people who has an eye for all that is glamorous. Or should we maybe say, he has the gift to make everything glamorous, because that is exactly what he does. And it pays off well, considering the numerous fashion editorials he can sign off on, not to mention a large variety of art and celebrity portraits. Last year James published a wonderful 120 pages photo book, simply named James Demitri Portfolio, in which some of his most beautiful works are assembled, and now there is Boy Wonder, a series published in the 2008 year book of hair fashion magazine Culture.
For the Boy Wonder series James worked with Michael Whittaker. Not to be confused with the Michael Whittaker from Nashville Tennessee that pops up whenever you Google his name, our Michael is one of the new faces of New York based model agency DNA Model Management. A boy, that is true, and most certainly a wonder. But we can’t help wondering, with his book on the digital shelves and his publication in Culture to start the year off, maybe James Demitri is the real Wonder Boy here? –B-
James Demitri’s Boy Wonder is a fantastic mix of sex and fashion, combining leather and swimwear. The products shown in this article are by Demon Leather, Aussiebum, Master Slave, Kornerd/CreateDestroyRebuild.
