It is no secret that sportswear is one of the biggest turn-ons in the gay scene. I mean, just go to the average gym and look around. Guarantee you will see more than a handful of guys walking around, working all but their own body. And aren’t sports wear shop the biggest cruising grounds? If you are one of the few who do not have any affinity with sportswear and the divine-like athletes who usually wear it, believe me, it will all come to an end after seeing Rick Days Players.

Rick Day was born in the southern part of the United States and moved to New York City back in 1994. Here he grew out to one of the most noted names in men's and women's fashion photography. Now Rick can look back at 15 years of quality work, including publications for magazines like Elle, Details and GQ and advertising campaigns fro Gap, Rufskin and Ritaini. For almost a year now Rick Day is chief photographer for Genre Magazine, like Mark Seliger was for Rolling Stone and Richard Avadon for Harper’s Bazar. Not bad for a southern boy who taught himself how to use a camera.

Watching a sports game is almost an act of voyeurism. Seeing those muscled strong bodies running over a field, catching a ball or – even better – tackling each other. Rick Day has succeeded to capture that radiant masculinity with his camera, by carefully staging his scenes with a selection of the most beautiful men, showing their most beautiful muscles. The result is a splendid photo book: 144 full color testosterone dripping pages hold together by an image-wrap hard-cover with dust-jacket. After flipping through the pages and seeing these immaculate and trained bodies, you never ask yourself again what goes on under those sport short. Or do you?

Rick Days Players seem to taunt you. With a certain air of superiority and arrogance, they exhibition themselves, well built and sometimes better equipped, seemingly aiming a direct confrontation with you, the spectator, while looking at you directly from the crisp pages, and you can almost hear them asking: do you wanna play? –B-
