WITH AN AMAZING EYE FOR DETAIL, JERRAD IS ONE OF THOSE TALENTED PEOPLE WHO HAS THE ABILITY TO CREATE AND BRING HIS VISION TO FULL BLOOM, WHETHER IT IS IN HIS LIFE PERFORMANCES OR HIS PHOTOGRAPHY. Jerrad Matthew was born in 1982 and enjoyed a rich childhood, being raised by a single mother who encouraged her sons creativity. Like every other happy child, Jerrad had a rich imagination, and was lucky and brave enough to use this to his success in many school performances. This eventually – and probably inevitably – brought him on path that would result in becoming a successful performer, with an eye for detail and a professionalism that has allowed him to exceed in many aspects of the entertainment industry. Jerrad now wears the multiple hats of writer, designer, choreographer, producer, director and stage manager. Add to this his out of the box photographic talent and we might safely say we have a modern day DaVinci in our hands.
Photography came into Jerrad Matthew life when his father gave him a camera as graduation present. Jerrad’s father has a passion for the art of photography, and given the fact he wasn’t a close contact to his son during his childhood, it is safe to say this passion and gift was passed through his DNA. As often the case with those who burst from creative talent, Jerrad was eager to fly out of the nest, and thus, at the age of 17 he packed up a car and drove to Hollywood where he soon found himself dancing down the streets of the Magical Kingdom known as Disney Land. Maybe by being surrounded by all that magic is what fed his visionary talent in photography, so beautifully exhibited in this series named Flashed.
Being the bubble of talent he is, Jerrad Matthew really found a way to express himself in photography: "Through this medium I am able to truly push the bounds of my creativity," he explains. "I can express the sexy fringe of my personality through my edgy, unique fashion images." Flashed is probably his raciest series up to date. He really decided to step out there on a ledge and take a chance. It definitely paid off. "I’ll admit there is some kind of power trip in creating an entire world in a single frame, and bringing that world to life in an alluring way that stimulates my viewer. I've been shooting for over 9 years but it has always been a hobby I did when I wasn't dancing on a cruise ship or directing a national tour. This was all my energy and creativity smashed together to capture these amazingly sexy images."
Flashed was shot in the restroom of a gay bar in Grand Rapids, Michigan, called Diversions. Jerrad had a vision and knew this location, with the mirrors and metal that give that edgy and sexy background, was the perfect outlet for his creativity. –B-
