IT HAS BEEN EXACTLY THREE YEARS AGO THAT WE FIRST PUBLISHED ABOUT
PHOTOGRAPHER KRISTOPHER KELLY. KRISTOPHER IS ONE OF THESE GUYS WHO SEEM
TO BE ABLE GET THE BEST OUT OF EVERY SCENE AND SITUATION. HIS WORK
CHARACTERIZES ITSELF BY ITS SIMPLICITY WHICH AT THE SAME TIME GIVES
ROOM FOR THE EXPRESSION OF HUMAN EMOTIONS. THAT IS WHAT MAKES HIS WORK
SO PERSONAL AND OFTEN DRAMATIC. THAT IS WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT KRISTOPHER
KELLY AND WHAT EVER HE DOES, WE PLAY BALL.
A quick update. Kristopher Kelly
originates from South California, where he grew up with a great love
for the entertainment industry. This resulted in him moving to New York
City in 1995, in order to pursue a career in singing and dancing. This
work brought him outside the United States and it was on these travels
that he first discovered the beauty and passion in photography. He
stated with capturing beautiful landscapes and scenery's, but it wasn’t
for long before he started experimenting with the sculpted lines of the
human body. In 2006, around the time we came to know him, Kristopher
decided to give up on acting and dancing (he still sings but only in
the privacy of his home) and dedicate all his free time to his passion
photography.
Recently we visited Kristopher Kelly
in his Manhattan apartment where he lives with his partner and dog, and
where he shoots much of his wonderful work. It is always interesting to
meet the man behind the camera and realize how much of his own
personality and soul you can find back in his work. Kristopher is
gentle and kind, intelligent and entertaining and has impeccable taste.
Looking at his work, this shouldn’t come as a surprise. Talking to him
we came to realize how important photography is for Kristopher Kelly.
It is his outlet for his creativity, which is the reason he always
tries new things, like settings, lights and emotions. For instance his
well acclaimed bed series, in which you can find intriguing
combinations of anxiety, fear, anger, depression as well as passion,
curiosity and eroticism. With some of his latest work, he completely
turned away from this, trying to show zero emotion and thus provoking
the curiosity of the viewer.
Like most creative persons, Kristopher Kelly
is someone who always searches for new ways and new tools to express
himself. Currently he is focusing on the element of light. Having been
a stage performer he knows as no other the importance of light and what
it can do to bring out emotion and drama. Also, like most creative
persons, Kristopher looks around and finds inspiration in many things
and many people. Lately he has been inspired by James Houston, who is
known for his emotional photography, and Gregory Crewdson, known for
elaborately staged, surreal scenes of American homes and neighborhoods.
Kristopher Kelly is definitely an artist who is in the spring of his
career, eager to blossom and come to full bloom. And if that happens we
want to be there, following every step of his already impressive
journey in the art of photography. –B-
