SOME EVENTS IN YOUR LIFE ARE SO SMALL THEY SEEM MEANINGLESS AND WHEN THEY HAPPEN FOR A FIRST TIME, YOU DON’T EVEN REALIZE IT DID. OTHERS ARE HUGE AND WE PUT A LOT OF IMPORTANCE TO IT. SOMETIMES THE SMALL MEANINGLESS ONES TURN OUT TO BE BIG, AND THOSE HAPPENINGS WE THOUGHT TO ME SO IMPORTANT AND LIFE CHANGING DIDN’T REALLY MAKE THE EARTH TREMBLE. ONE THING IS SURE THOUGH. THERE IS A FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING.

New York photographer Frank Louis is known for his elegant and sophisticated work that proofs his great skill in photography without any post-production effects and over-lighting. His themes differ from styleful and sensuous to daring, sexy and sometimes on the edge. Frank is also known for finding the right guys to model, and even if they have hardly any experience at all, Frank has that capacity to make them at ease and give all they’ve got. As he did with Phil Ductan for example.

At the age of 14, Phil Ductan started to work out, soon realizing, when people started to notice him, that the result was worth the effort. Believe it or not, but Phil is only 20 years old, and thus it only took him 6 years to develop the gorgeous body he has now. And he isn’t finished yet, given he trains 5 times a week and really likes to kill his abs. Like Frank, Phil is a true New Yorker. He is of Dominican and Haitian origin and lives in The Bronx. Frank’s comment on Phil was: “Phil Ductan is one beautiful black man inside and out. His body is like a marble statue… When I would wet him down, he looked like a statue in the rain. He is sexy, charming, fun and easy to work with.”

The series you see here is the result of the first shoot Frank and Phil had together. And even though Phil was a bit shy at the beginning, he is a hard working and knows what he wants, so it didn’t take long before he came out of his shell. Frank continues: “At the beginning of this shoot, he was reserved and not connecting as I would have hoped with the camera. I saw so much potential in him, so I pushed him harder than I normally do for beginner models. Taking him out of his comfort zone and pushing his limits a bit. He worked his ass off. He was determined to deliver and that he did. He is a quick study. He told me he never realized how intense a shoot can get!”

What Frank Louis loves most about photographing people is the real connection he can have with his models, and seeing how they transform right in front of his eyes. Exactly what happened when he worked with Phil Ductan. A first time shoot can always be a bit scary. Both for model and photographer. You don’t know what to expect, and you don’t know what the result can be like. In the case of Frank and Phil it was a success and Frank is convinced Phil Ductan is a man who will do very well in this field of work. -B-

I love Phil's body. Every part is defined causing your eyes to follow each cut. By looking at his pictures I wonder what type of person he is. Speaking as someone whos is very close friends with him.
