ANDY WARHOL ONCE SAID THAT AN ARTIST IS SOMEONE WHO PRODUCES THINGS THAT PEOPLE DON’T NEED TO HAVE, BUT THAT HE – FOR SOME REASON – THINKS IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO GIVE THEM. ILLUSTRATOR ISMAEL ÁLVAREZ SEEMS TO KEEP THIS WISDOM HIGH IN VALUE, SINCE IT APPEARS ON HIS WEBSITE AND IN HIS FIRST COFFEE TABLE BOOK. WHICH IS BY THE WAY A PIECE OF ART THAT WOULD BE A VERY GOOD IDEA TO HAVE.
The nice thing about being able to make great illustrations, and particularly adult illustrations, is that you can make your hero’s exactly how you want them to be. Ismael Álvarez was born 31 years ago in the town Huelva, in Andalusia, South of Spain, but has been living for quite some time already in Spain's capital city Madrid. A city he wouldn’t want to change for any other place in the world. He loves it because of the city itself and the people he has come to know here. It is also the city where he started his work as designer, sketcher of comics and illustrative artist.
As a real illustrator and comic sketcher, Ismael Álvarez passionately loves the world of comics. In fact, he has three passions: comics, eroticism and porn. "I do not understand why people see the world of sex and everything that has to do with it as something dirty," he explains. "It is the contrary. It is a world of beauty and eroticism." And as a final thought he ads to that that if you don’t want to see it, you simply don’t look. But that is not so easy when it comes to Ismael Álvarez’ art. Because it is captivating and engaging, and once it has drawn your attention, it is difficult to turn away from it.
This month Bruno Gmünder will release Ismael Álvarez’ book In Yer Face. 80 Pages with full color illustrations of the most sensual and striking men, sometimes inspired by – and recognizable as – real people, sometime completely sprouted from the creative mind of Ismael Álvarez. In Yer Face is Ismael’s vivid testimony that eroticism and porn is indeed something we all can and should enjoy. –B-

Best illustrations I've ever seen. They are so real and so... hot. The men are soulful and have that certain look. On the other hand, there are some fantasy factor to the pics. These are fantastic. Thank for bring them on

Beautiful work. The body hair detailing reminds me of a good friend and illustrator
Richard Rosner, who we lost in the late 70's. He did work for gay publications like Blue Boy. Thank you for bringing back memories of days gone. Contiuned success.

Yeah, his work is absolutely grrreat! I wish I could create something similar, but I'll have to work a lot more on my illustrations. Nevertheless, he's one of my idols, as well as Joe Phillips and Kinu Sekigushi.
