Born in Naples, Italy, Domenico Cennamo moved to Roma in his childhood years. Here he was first introduced to the universe of image and art. Domenico embarked on a journey in arts at the artistic college of Rome and, later, at university where he studied Story of Art. He never finished his study. Domenico broke off in order to start working in the fashion industry as a booker in a model agency. After having seen many models and just as many photographers, Domenic Cennamo came to realize there were other ways to create photographic art. It was at this point in his life he decided to pick up a camera and realize his own photographic vision. A vision now for the first time immortalized with his debut book Before The Game.
With Before The Game Domenico Cennamo creates a mocker room epic that fulfills every gays fantasy. But Before The Game is more than that. The book consists out of three separate chapters. Per Gioco, the first chapter was shot in an old boxing hall in the Roman suburbs during training sessions, in the changing room and the lockers and under the shower. Chapter two, Privato, catches moment of everyday’s life in a house shared by friends. The subdued light, intimate atmosphere and environments combined with the beauty of the male bodies is an expression of spontaneous sensuality.
The rowing society Circolo Kayak Castel Gandolfo at the Castel Gandolfo Lake just outside of Roma was host to the third chapter Canoa. In this most challenging of the three chapters, Domenico Cennamo perfectly captures a physical intimacy with a simplicity that supplements the solitary natural environment of the location. Before The Game is a beautiful crafted photo book, with 96 pages full of full colour and duo tone portraits. The hardcover book will be released by Bruno Gmünder in March 2010. –B-
