Ever since they appeared in the first half of the 20th century as comic characters, Superheroes have marveled and inspired many generations. Being a product of mostly American origin, they have, for many, become the personification of the American dream. My personal favorite is definitely Batman, probably because I’m a sucker for muscled men dressed in black (Tobey Maguire in his black Spiderman spandex scores high as well). Photographer J.Cassoni is no exception. He is definitely one of the superhero generation and – now being an adult – can still be found in front of the TV, loosing himself in animated adventures of those privileged ones that save our planet over and over again from evil, every Saturday morning.
J.Cassoni was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia and still calls it home. He has some heroes of himself as well, and one of them is definitely his partner. If it wasn’t for him, J. would probably never have dared to follow his dream to take photos. So if it hadn’t for him we would never have been able to marvel at this series of a year one Batman in the person of Truman. Like J.Cassoni, Truman lives in Atlanta where he is rapidly making name for himself as model and stage actor.
Superheroes are not the only thing that interest J.Cassoni. He used to be very involved in politics and is still fascinated by it. He finds inspiration in many different subjects. Anything dreamlike, nightmarish or other worldly that can take him out of his head works for J. And judging from these portraits here, J.Cassoni can also find lots of inspiration in scarcely dressed men. Something we can very much relate to as well.
Superheroes. We all need them. We all need someone to look up to and hang on to. For some they are as real as Batman, Spiderman or The Fantastic Four. For others they come in real persons. As much as J.Cassoni likes his comic characters, he also knows some very real heroes. Stephen Fry is one of them. Historical Spanish playwright and philosopher Miguel de Unamuno y Jugo is also on his list. But one of his biggest heroes is his mother, the woman who emigrated from Spain and really lived the American dream. –B-

Photographer J. Cassoni and his model Truman are quickly becoming two of my favorite heroes: J. for his splendid photographic skills, and Truman for his superhero-like beautiful body.
